New cheesesteak on the scene

posted on March 16, 2011 at 8:33 am

Reader Michael N. reports he’s found a destination-worthy cheesesteak at Slack’s Restaurant and Bar in the Brookhaven shopping center near the new Costco. The restaurant’s website says the following:

Slack’s Restaurant and Bar is situated in Town Brookhaven, adjacent to historic Oglethorpe University.
The menu offers a taste of Philadelphia that includes Yuenling (sic) beers, Amroso rolls, house recipe hoagie oils and both Giordano and Berk’s meats. All wing sauces are made on premises and we hand bread all tenders, wings and calamari. Come enjoy a taste of Philly along with a full service bar, offering a large selection of beers, wines and spirits. Join us to experience excellent food at our stylish dining room or enjoy a cocktail crafted by our bartender’s at our uniquely designed bar. Our hopes and goal is to provide a lasting and memorable experience.

Michael sent along this picture of his cheesesteak with an enthusiastic caption that read “go baby go!”

Let us know how it is should you go and check it out.

    I’ve had it – it’s not bad. I’d give it a B.

Still think Roy’s is head and shoulders above the rest in town and on par with a good cheesesteak in Philly/NJ.

I’ve tried the the cheesesteaks two or three times and would give them a “C”. Their pretty bland, like someone forgot to add salt and pepper to the beef. Their chicken cutlet and broccoli rabe sandwich is great though. I know that sounds like a horrible combo, but evidently it’s a traditional Philly thing.

I’m dubious of any cheesesteak place that can’t spell “Yuengling” or “Amoroso’s” correctly.

Agree with Christy – cheesesteaks have no flavor at all. Wife ordered the chicken breast sandwich and had to salt it as well. We’re low-sodium eaters, but the food had no taste. It’s a shame as we live near by and really wanted to like it. Beautiful bar, though, albeit pricey tab selection. Menu’s look really cheap and bland, much like their food. I’d rate food a C, the locale a A- (nice bathrooms, really).
