Woodfire Grill: Atlanta

posted on November 6, 2005 at 7:18 pm

We went to Woodfire Grill on Friday night for a dinner with friends. I went a couple of years ago and just wasn’t wowed with my meal. I wanted to try it again. I’d heard many good things lately. We were warmly greeted and promptly seated. The waiter knew the menu back and worth and was attentive throughout the meal. The wine list is very well put together. We had a glass of Billecart Salmon and then a bottle of Abacela Vineyards “Vintner’s Blend #6,” Oregon n.v.
We ordered the following for dinner:
-Marinated red ace beets, arugula, point reyes blue, truffle oil: The beets were marinated in a vinegar mixture that took away all traces of the earth and the other flavors and textures married beautifully.
-Crisp fried organic local okra & hakurei turnips, mizuna: Perfectly seasoned and crunchy without being oily.
-Maine peekytoe crab salad, fuji apple, papaya, orange, citrus vinaigrette: Fresh crab and the pucker of citrus make for a refreshing starter.
-Wood oven roasted whole daurade, fingerling potatoes, garlicky green beans, lemon, rosemary, olive oil: Wonderful flavor.
-Slow cooked dakota organic short rib ragout, paccheri pasta, parmigiano-reggiano, gremolata: Amazingly rich and tasty. Added the truffle shavings supplement but was disappointed not to taste any true truffle flavor. They were kind enough to drizzle a bit of truffle oil on top. Once again, great service.
-Wood grilled metzger farm berkshire pork chop, anson mill grits, steel pan greens, gala apple sauce and Wood grilled local springer mountain farms chicken, steel pan greens, salsa verde: Did not try either of these but my dining companions said they were great.
We all shared an Apple Crisp, Chocolate cherry cake, and Bread pudding. They were all amazing.
I left dinner feeling happy and satisfied. I will be returning.

We had dinner at Woodfire tonight. Portions are tiny, and I don’t believe in mammoth portions. Service was slow, and menu was not exciting. When was your last review?
