Who makes your favorite dirty martini in Atlanta?

posted on January 3, 2008 at 5:48 am

I am kind of a late bloomer when it comes to cocktails. In the past, I’ve been stumped when asked for my order while having cocktails with friends. Nothing ever appealed to me. Too strong. Too fruity. I always ended up with a glass of wine. Well, that all changed on a recent trip to Philly when one of my friends insisted I try her dirty vodka martini. It was love at first sip and it only took 31 years! Since that fateful night, I’ve been searching Atlanta for the perfect dirty martini (and making my own at home). Any of you dirty devotees have a favorite in Atlanta? Let me know.

I am not a huge fan of martinis but I’d have to say the Highland Tap makes a mean martini.

Martinis are my single choice of cocktail. The best I have had so far is at Restaurant Eugene:

    THE UNDENIABLE TRUTH
Sarticious Gin, Noilly Prat Vermouth and DOP Carte Noir Extra Virgin Olive Oil

The gin has a delicious herbal undertone. There is a drop of the olive oil floating on the surface of the gin instead of an olive. Beautiful and elegant.

I have a reverse question..where did you have the martini in Philly? I’m headed there next week.
    Your friend or a bar?

Brazzerie le coze used to have the best so I ordered one at FAB and it was good. Not as good but good. Hal’s has a good one too. This is my go-to cocktail so I’ve pretty much had one everywhere. For some reason they are just better when I’m traveling and I can’t explain why.

Thanks everyone. Good ideas. Keep them coming.

Bess: I had it at the bar in the Ritz Carlton downtown. They were perfect.

On another note, try to get it into Vetri or Osteria (both owned by the same folks). Had a meal at Osteria and it was the best Italian meal I have had in a long while–esp. the pizza margherita. Happy travels.
    Bliss

My wife is a dirty vodka martini connoisseur and in Atlanta the best so far is made at La Grotta Buckhead. It is a simple drink, but the the olive juice is key. It has to have the perfect salinity and the type of olive is important. Kalmata juice is wrong….. We will have to try the Highland Tap, but in second place is Vickery’s. It of course is also dependent on the bartender at any place, since the right balance is so subtle.

I wouldn’t call it a martini if it has vodka in it – but I guess I’m a bit of a martini snob. Order yourself a martini with a good gin and a lemon twist, and ask them to stir it as opposed to shaking. It’s a good, clean tasting drink.

well if you’re headed to Philly, I would say Barclay Prime. They have a signature martini that is essentially a dirty martini made with a lightly infused jalapeno flavored vodka. Float a paper thin slice of fresh jalapeno on top and it’s a great cocktail!

I don’t know where the best dirty martini is but I want to recommend getting them with blue cheese stuffed olives when available. I love it made this way.
