This just in: Frank Ma South opens this weekend

posted on July 31, 2008 at 1:53 pm

Jennifer Senator (who I should disclose is my editor at Atlanta Magazine) is reporting on her blog that:

Frank Ma South (2088 Briarcliff Road), the latest venture for Atlanta’s king of Chinese cuisine, is scheduled to open this weekend. I spoke with Ma yesterday and he said as long as everything goes according to plan, they should be open Friday night.

Oh man….a new location more in town….totally within take-out range. This is awful. And by awful I mean wonderful.

How much pork belly with leeks is TOO much pork belly with leeks?

*Totally* hit that tonight with my wife and stepson (was that you sitting next to us? 🙂 ) It was class Frank Ma, and oh so good. The soup dumplings were to die for. And pork belly with leek, dear anonymous, knows no limit. Mmmm mmmm! Thanks so much for the tip-off! I am so glad they’ve moved in so close to us.

My mom went tonight with friends and they loved it. Mr. Ma said he is too old to own a restaurant so he consults! Hopefully, when he leaves the restaurant to “fly on its own” it will stay true to his recipes and ideas.
We used to eat at their restaurant in Sandy Springs oh so many years ago and when we saw them again at Dinho after all this time they remembered us! Such sweet people.

Hubby and I went Sunday night for dinner. We were promptly seated. We ordered the three cups chicken, kung pao chicken, and dry green bean sautee. Everything was delicious. No soup dumplings yet. I was told maybe next week. Also, lunch buffet is geared up to start Tuesday or Wednesday. Service was a bit scattered, but they’re still fine-tuning it. Mr. Ma swung by and greeted us and was very nice. We will certainly be back for more!

    Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

When I heard Frank Ma South, I envisioned some location near the airport that I would never go to. This location is just up the street from me. I only made it up to Dinho twice because it was a 20+ minute drive, but like the other poster said, this is totally within take-out range. Awesome!

my wife and i went on Sunday night. It was our first experience with a Frank Ma meal and it did not disappoint. The fried pork dumplings provided a nice start, crisp on the fried side and the light and fresh on the other. we had the pork belly with leeks and the fish in hot oil. both were great, but the fish was my surprising favorite.
