Starfish Sake and Sushi: Buckhead

I went over tonight for some sushi. Got some hirame, red snapper and sake sashimi. Also got some oshinko maki. Ordered the hamachi kama. The BF got a sashimi platter. The quality of the sashimi was just OK. It was fresh but the flavor was lacking vs. the fish at MF and Taka. The hamachi kama arrived looking just lovely but I took a bite and it was frozen through. Not a good sign. The waiter said that was how it was supposed to be served but I objected. They took it back and brought me some hamachi sashimi which I did not ask for or eat. I really enjoyed my oshinko maki. The rice was a bit too dry but the oshinko was prefect and crunchy.
My BF said he really enjoyed his sashimi assortment (pictures above). They gave him loads of fish and it all looked beautiful. They really have great presentation. The salad and soup that came with his platter were really good. Just perfect miso soup with nice tofu and thinly sliced mushrooms. Had an unfiltered sake which was very good. However, I was surprised that a self-proclaimed Sake Bar only had 12 choices of cold sake…

The service was great and the staff was very friendly. I especially loved the little towel trick (they hydrate a small pill looking thing into a hot towel). Tres cool. The prices were pretty high too. We got out of there for about $100. Not a bad experience but I definitely prefer Taka or MF over the sushi here any day.

Verdict: Professional and friendly service. Good but not great. Weird roll names and a bit overpriced. Worth a try because I hear the quality of the food can go anywhere from average to excellent.
