The French Laundry: Yountville

S.Pellegrino has released its lauded annual list of the world’s 50 best restaurants for 2010. Noma, in Copenhagen, takes top honors with El Bulli coming in a close second. The French Laundry (the picture above is from my visit a couple of years ago) secured the #32 spot on the list with its brother restaurant, Per Se, at #10. David Chang’s Momofuku Ssäm Bar in NYC scored the #26 spot–surprisingly higher than French Laundry. Chang is really killing it right now.

You can view the rest of the list here.

How many have you been to?

While the notion of this kind of list is absurd, it is fun to county how many (how few!) one has hit. I’ve got exactly 5 of the top 50 and 10 of the top 10. A few have truly been great (Alinea, Etxebarri), a few eh (Daniel, Manresa), and the rest somewhere in the middle. Lucky are the few who actually get to dine at any of these places more than once – I’m willing to give Manresa and Daniel the benefit of the doubt that my so-so meals there were exceptions to the rule.

I think it’s interesting that Ssam Bar made the list but Momofuku Ko didn’t.
