Roy’s Cheesesteaks: Smyrna
posted on August 18, 2008 at 5:25 am
After years of subpar specimens, I think Roy’s might actually be the first Atlanta cheesesteak worthy of a recommendation. Moonie took me there this weekend and it was pretty darn good. I got the classic “Whiz wit” while Moonie got his with provolone.
My cheesesteak: Good bun and plenty of meat that was a bit heavy on the seasoning but still very good and worth a return trip.
Italian hoagie: I am normally not a hoagie gal but found this to be enjoyable. Soft bun with good bite and a nice mix of fillings that weren’t heavy on the salt factor. Solid.

Glad you noticed… I live right around the corner from this place and being FROM PHILLY; this place is the real deal. If only they made it WIT (Cheese Wiz). Love the tastykake offerings too but no cheese fries sadly. Way better than anything from Lenny’s, Mad Italian or that horrible chain not to be mentioned.
They do make it “WIT.” That is what I ordered. Good spot.
What are your feelings on Woody’s cheesesteaks? They’re right down the street from me, and I think that, while they’re not quite up to Philly’s level, they’re pretty damn good.
Jake, I have honestly never been wowed with Woody’s. I have to say Roy’s trumps them. That being said, Woody’s is an institution I’d hate to see close.
Rip roys. It recently closed down. For the past 6 months I went once to twice a week. One day I randomly came and it said they closed. I’m still devastated right now. It’s been a month. I went to this place around 2008 also. It was sponsored by my school. Then 12 years later I would be coming back again. I loved this place and hope I can’t see Tito again.
