I went to ‘The Hil’ in Serenbe (Palmetto, GA… kind of far, but I know you’ve been to Farmhouse). It was AMAZING. Such a cute restaurant interior and the food was just great. Apparently, the chef used to be at 103 West in Buckhead & almost all of the food was picked on the local organic farm. We had a yummy vidalia onion dip with homemade potato chips, crab fritters (all crab, basically) and rustic chicken pot pies – they were stuffed w/ a bunch of fun organic veggies, including ‘Lady Peas,’ which I’d never had / heard of before. Really, really worth the trip…

Also, I noticed that you’ve never written about Kyma on your blog. It’s SO good… Really, it’s my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. Everything there is just fresh & simple and so, so good. It’s the first place I tried octopus (wood-grilled w/ marinated red onions) and they have the best lamb chops w/ Greek fries and tzatziki in town. If you haven’t been, I’d recommend it.

I wanted to share a new cup cake find that you might not be aware of. Pasta Vino in Buckhead has recently started making cupcakes. Susie the new manager, is using her Grandmother’s recipes. She has three flavors, pistachio, red velvet jalapeno, and butter-scotch. I live in Grant Park, but these make the trip to Buckhead worthwhile. My parents are huge Pasta Vino patrons and have discovered they have a whole list of things they can make you that are not on their regular menu. I recommend the trout with the lemon butter sauce.

I found a great little donut shop – way off the beaten path – but worth the trip if you’re in the area. I’ve been going there for about a year now. It’s called ‘Dough in the Box’ Donuts in Austell, GA (3184 Austell Road, Marietta, GA 30008 (770) 436-5155. It’s run by a Vietnamese family – and the donuts are great! Like donuts used to be. Their apple fritters are the BEST (they also have blueberry fritters). Light, airy – not greasy and heavy. They also have a chocolate covered sour cream donut (my personal favorite) and Buttermilk (my husband’s fave). They have all the usual suspects: raised, glazed, filled, cake, etc. – and they are all good – and cheap! Excellent quality – my coworkers die for them.
