Pangaea: Midtown West (CLOSED)

I have always liked Pangaea and I find myself going more and more. Ever since I moved, the place is way too close for me to pass up when I am in need of a quick and fresh-tasting lunch. The industrial space always feels warm to me somehow. The owner’s kid is fast asleep in his car seat under one of the prep tables. People are hungrily digging into the wide variety of food looking satisfied and happy. It is not always perfect, but the love behind the food is evident. I ordered the carne asada torta with avocado ($5.95) on my last visit. The meat was missing some salt, but I quickly remedied that with the shaker at the table. The meat was cooked in coconut milk which made each bite sweet and rich. Really gorgeous. They served it with a tangy chickpea salad, which was a perfect compliment to the beef.
