Nibbles

I have been a bad blogger lately. It has been a long month and I haven’t had the time to do anything except work and put out fires around the homestead. I did manage to squeeze in a few meals worth mentioning…
Met some friends for a dinner at Cafe 101 the other night. I just adore this place and probably eat here once a week. The fish filets and tofu in hot bean sauce is still as good as ever and I tried the dumplings for the first time. They were wrapped like a taco and amazingly delicate. Both are must-orders if you haven’t had them.

Moonie and I went to Goldberg’s on West Paces to get our deli fix for lack of any better options within close proximity. I had the soup and sandwich combo. The chicken noodle soup was soothing, but the Reuben was craptastic. Just one big sloppy mess with no redeeming qualities at all. I took a sample of one of the hamantashen (one of my favorite cookies in the world) and it almost broke my teeth it was so stale. I don’t know why I continue to revisit the place. It is definitely not the Goldberg’s of my youth. Sad.

You may lose some respect for me on this one, but I had an awesome meal at Houston’s. My mom used to take us here after our dance/karate/soccer practices and it is just one of those easy places to get some decent grub when the food muse is not around. Got a grilled piece of grouper served with a lovely couscous mixed with nuts, dried fruit, fresh herbs and a bright green olive oil. Such a satisfying and relatively healthy meal.

Hit up Jamal’s Buffalo Wings (or Jamalito’s as I like to call it) and it rocked as usual. They are really my favorite wings in town.

Houston’s is a passable chain. I don’t mind going there every once in while when I don’t feel like fighting my friends about picking something more esoteric.

If you want deli, go to the Bagel Palace.

Thanks for turning me on to Cafe 101 and the dan dan noodles. I think I could eat them at least once a week. The dumplings are also delicious, not like the dumplings at other Chinese restaurants. Last time we went, I tried the stir-fried string beans with ground pork. I thought they were very good, and I will definitely order them next time. Thanks again!
