Il Mulino: New York

RESTAURANT REVIEW:
I had eaten here once but I was completely tired since I had just come directly from the airport after a flight from SF. I remembered I had delicious pasta with fresh white truffles. And, I am a sucker for truffles. I always tried to get a reservation when I went to New York but could never even get past the constant busy signal. By some miracle, I called and got a reservation for 9:30 on a Wednesday. I was very excited. We arrived and were told that they were running 10 minutes behind. We didn’t get seated until a little after 10. We were bombarded with a variety of very tasty antipasti as soon as we sat down. Spicy zucchini, freshly cut chunks of Parmesan, dry salami, bruschetta…this place is very old-world style. We devoured it because we had waited so long and drank too much. The tuxedo-clad waiters are curt but very efficient. We each started out with Porcini Mushroom Ravioli. The cream sauce was too heavy for me but I am not a big fan of the cream. The pasta filling was meaty and very tasty though. I could not taste one bit of truffle. I ordered the grilled langoustine which was served with hefty portion of Spinach and langoustine meat risotto. It was very good but I could not finish because I was full of wine, antipasti, and ravioli. No wonder we saw every patron leaving with bags of leftovers. My boyfriend had the Ossobucco, which was very tasty and authentically prepared. We all agreed the food was delicious but just not worth the wait and cost. They comped our wine, which I assuming was them making good on having us wait for about 40 minutes. I am sorry to say I don’t think I will be going back. I know they have been in business for quite some time but their food is just not worth the price tag and that wait was ridiculous.
