Have any of you been to Sushi House Hayakawa?

posted on July 17, 2008 at 12:58 pm
I have heard many good things from reliable sources but have not had a lick of time to get up there. Would love to hear any reports back. If you have no idea what place I am talking about, it is a new sushi spot on Buford Highway. Check out this article by John Kessler. Taka, TOMO, MF Sushi Bar (the original) and maybe another stellar sushi bar? Man, our ethnic scene just gets better and better.

Haven’t been to Hayakawa, but would certainly add Sushi Bar Yu-Ka to that list as well.

I went to Hayakawa with some family members last week and had a phenomenal time. Didn’t get to sit at the sushi bar as there were too many of us, but still pretty tasty nonetheless. We ordered a couple of sushi combos and a sashimi combo to share among the 5 of us. Kind of plain compared to the fanciness John Kessler had in his review, but great still.

Wonderful place. The omakase we ordered was perfection, especially the scallops, which were the best I’ve ever tasted. Very flavorful and fresh seaweed salad. Also tried the tanuki udon, which was about average, which isn’t to say it wasn’t tasty–just about average from what I’ve had locally. But the sashimi was the best I’ve had in Atlanta, we’ll definitely be back.

Bliss, I highly recommend you check out Sushi Nami the next time you’re in the Alpharetta area. It’s on Windward Pkwy, so it’s a bit of a drive from ITP, but in my opinion (living in Dunwoody) it’s so worth it. I found the quality of fish and preparation to rival Taka while being slightly more affordable, and their specialty rolls range from supertraditional ingredients (shiso leaf) to more global fare. I can’t gush enough about their strip steak roll, which was a spicy chop of shrimp and crab in an inside-out roll, topped with slices of raw strip steak, blasted with a propane torch to crust the outside of the steak, then drizzled with balsamic, eel sauce, and black pepper. SO GOOD. They also have more varieties of nigiri than I’ve seen anywhere outside of your holy triumvirate of sushi places.
