From New York, with love: the final chapter

posted on April 16, 2008 at 3:24 am
Back in Atlanta, caught up on everything and just finishing the last (sniff, sniff) of all my food shopping from New York. Latkes, knishes, bagels, half-sour pickles, sturgeon, rope sausage…the list goes on. But, we hit some great restaurants in addition to our “supermarket sweep” before flying out of NYC.
Staying up to date with New York restaurants is an arduous tasks since so many open (and close) every week. But, my pops travels up there often and he did some of the picking. While it is nothing new, our meal at BLT Steak was absolutely sublime. If I lived in NYC, I would be here all the time.

I couldn’t leave NYC without a visit to the original Momofuku. I just love the ramen here. I popped my head into Momofuku Ko to check it out. Chef Chang was hanging inside and getting ready for the night’s service. Small space, but I hear the food is very good.

After our wine event, my Dad and I hit Bar Boulud for a quick bite. The place is uber relaxed compared to Boulud’s other restaurants, but a must if you are in NYC and have never been. A very French menu with plenty of terrines, salads, mains like duck confit with tarbais beans and escargot.

I must say, Momofuku’s ramen looks amazing, even moreso than my fave Santa out in San Mateo that I just had last week. You know Momofuku does pork right, and that’s a big factor in getting to a stellar ramen.

Aren’t they opening a BLT steak here in the future? I think I read that.
I love Momofuku and visit one of his restaurants on every NY trip. The last time we went to Momofuku Ssam Bar and did an incredible seven course tasting menu. Every course was amazing especially the brussel sprouts and the ham tasting. we are going back in May and are going to try to snag a stool at Momofuku Ko.
Other places we loved were Bouley, Aquagrill, and Resto.
