Frank Ma longer at Frank Ma South

Frank Ma contacted me to let me know he has not been at Frank Ma South since the end of September. He is still working on consulting gigs–one in particular that I am very excited about it if goes through–but I can’t say more right now. Stay tuned…

You know, it’s almost like one of those relationships where you keep getting back together with a bad man over and over again. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to trust Frank again. He’s just up and left me too many times. And it always seems to be when I need soup dumplings the most.
Wondered when we went last week and no Frank… I heard the Dinho place in Chinatown is closed too?
i thought something was up… They have been straying from the quality of the recipes lately – Pork bellies and leeks – pork way overcooked, three cups chicken – kind of different from their original recipe, soup dumplings – dumplings are dried out on the outside and soup is gone from the inside.
Last time I was there, they were handling their walk-ins in the main dining room and these dudes’ asses were hovering over my table for 15 minutes while they were waiting for their General’s Tso and Chicken wings.
I hope it was a fluke.
We ate there last night and the food was average take out level, although we were eating in. Fish in hot oil was not spicy, soup dumpling’s filling had a mushy texture with little soup and even the steamed rice was not fresh. They were busy on a rainy Wednesday night, so some like it. However, we will not return.

Yes, Dinho has closed too.
Has the chef left as well? When I ate there in November I did notice that Mr. Ma wasn’t there even though it was on a weekend, and that some of the food was not quite up to par; but some of the dishes I had were quite good.
I am not sure about the chef. I will try and find out.
Yeah, you look at the Yelp chart and you see it go from OVER 4 stars average in September to just 2 stars in November and beyond. Sad.
