Food find: Amazing vinegars at Savor in Buckhead
Since Savor Specialty Foods opened their doors, I have gotten to know the proprietors (January and Ren Hodgson) quite well–developing relationships with the people who sell you your food is rewarding in so many ways. I always learn something when I got in the shop. January has to be one of the most knowledgeable (and sweetest) gourmet store owners in Atlanta. The store’s selection of olive oils and vinegars (and tasty sandwiches) is the main draw for me. I am a fan of very vinegary salads (a blessing when dieting and trying to avoid adding too many fats to the meal). My favorite vinegars, right now, are the two pictured above. The one on the left is a balsamic aged in cherry wood that can hold its own on a salad–no olive oil required. I especially like it with the endive salad mix from the farm stand at Star Provisions right now (I can’t get enough of those greens). The one on the right is a a departure from my normal simple vinegar routine. But, one sip had me clamoring for a bottle. The white wine vinegar is flavored with pear and lavender honey and it just sings on your palate. A must-buy if you are looking for a new vinegar to play with.
