Five Guys Burgers: Edgewood

Everybody needs a good burger from time to time and I am no exception. I am constantly searching for a good one. I find the usual suspects like The Vortex, Highland Tap and Ann’s snack shack way overrated. I’d been hearing some buzz about Five Guys Burgers which is a chain out of Washington. I was curious to see if it was worth the hype. I met a friend for lunch the other day. Nothing is frozen…they don’t even have freezers in the store. All the toppings are free and prices are pretty reasonable. I got a regular and some fries to share with my dining companion. The fries are plenty for two. The regular actually has two patties. Get the small if you want a tinier bite. The burger was good. The buns were a bit cold since they were left at room temperature but it did not affect the taste at all. A very good burger. Worth the drive. The fries were awesome. The were not greasy at all and perfectly dry inside. They were so crisp and wonderful. I will definitely be going back. Give it a try.

I’ll have to try that sometime… One other suggestion for a good burger: the Angus Burger at Eclipse di Sol. I personally get it with cheddar and bacon. It qualifies as the best burger in town for me.
I’ll second that Eclipse di Sol burger recommendation, naoya, but I prefer mine with gorgonzola. It’s a really great burger, though I will say that their (otherwise very good) fries are woefully overseasoned.
I’m looking forward to trying Five Guys out. I peaked in there last time I was at Edgewood but I’d never heard of the place before.
Well, I tried one for the first time today. This store was in Stafford, VA, and it was so good I had to see what the rest of the world was saying. This is a burger you would make at home if you had the time. Fresh meat and fresher toppings. And, like the review, the fries were more than enough for two. I ordered a small, and the fries in my bag filled the fry cup three times! This isn’t a burger for snobs; it’s a burger for the people!
Five guys always has great burgers. I am from VA, and was so happy when one opened in Buckhead.
One of the best Burger’s I have had in Atlanta is at Brickstore Pub in Decatur, they serve it on a Challah bun.
Maybe the locations in VA are good but the ones in GA are terrible. Well terrible might be too harsh but way over-priced for what you get. Plus the taste was no better than Wendys. I’ll skip 5 Guys next time.
i think that’s more of an indictment of GA than it is of Five Guys. the ones in MD are incredible.
Au contraire, Koz. The five guys on PIB is awesome. Love it.
I’m from northern VA and have had them both in atlanta and the new one here in birmingham and i think they taste just as good as the ones they opened outside DC.
I want to like Five Guys but frankly I don’t see what all the fuss is about. I’ve been to Five Guys in DC and ATL and found them to be the same: overpriced, better than average but nothing special. For my money nothing beats an In and Out burger. Unfortunately they’re only available out west.
I think Five Guys serves a purpose and I enjoy them–never had a problem and I don’t mind paying a premium for better meat and other ingredients that have not seen a freezer. But I will definitely agree with you that they don’t hold a candle to In and Out although Five Guys has MUCH better fries.
burger would’ve tasted better if you had ate it in the shack. 5guys is wack and closing left and right.
