First impression: BLT Steak

BLT Steak: Downtown
I am going to keep this short, since it is based on only one visit within the first week of the restaurant being open. But I went last Thursday and had an absolutely delicious meal with great company. Every table receives an amuse bouche of bread and chicken liver mousse. The livers were the only real letdown of the meal as they were a bit runny and warm. However, my chopped salad starter–a favorite of mine at the NYC location–was full of crunchy components and the dressing was pitch perfect. My NY strip–which one of my dining companions preferred over his bone-in ribeye–was craveworthy. The meat was cooked to the perfect temperature with just the right amount of salt and the round of compound butter melting on top of the meat upped the decadence factor. Leek and potato hash browns had a deep golden crust and creamy interior. The creamed spinach with nutmeg tasted just as the steakhouse classic should and the consistency was spot on. They forgot to bring us the lauded popovers, but quickly remedied the oversight after we brought it to their attention. Great space. Good food. Nice people. Completely unpretentious. The only odd thing I have noted is the atmosphere as it tends to feel a bit hotel antiseptic. But I can get over that for a solid steak executed with a French chef’s touch. I am happy to have it so close by even if it is pretty cost prohibitive given the current economy. Check out the pictures below for an idea of what you are in for. They are a bit noisy since I was using my point and shoot, but you get the drift.

    Looks good.

I look forward to your full review.

When will you be reviewing Flip and Craft?

Thanks. Those reviews are coming soon. My laptop crashed and they were on it. I am in the process of finishing FLIP. Should be up by the end of the week.

I’m still not sick of cooking in this wood-burning oven and no-knead pizza dough. https://t.co/yl5uyR2TJf blissfulglutton photo
