Calling all food fiends: Peter Chang is back!
Tom Maicon, of Atlanta Cuisine is reporting that chef Peter Chang, the Don of Szechuan, is back in Atlanta! The horrible picture above is from my first meal at Tasty China when Chang first made his debut. It was such a memorable meal. Here’s a snippet of what Tom says in his article on Atlanta Cuisine:
The most electrifying chef to ever cook in the Atlanta market was Peter Chang. Remember the excitement when foodies arrived from all over the US to sample his spicy cuisine at Tasty China? Well, he’s back!
After a late lunch at Tasty China this afternoon, cooked by Chang himself (a fiery fragrant shrimp in hot pot), it appears he and Dahe Yang (owner of Tasty China) plan to open a restaurant together somewhere in the Sandy Springs, or possibly even the Powers Ferry Road area.
The immediate plan is for Chang to work at Tasty China Marietta while they secure a location.
Atlantans should consider themselves lucky especially because Chang was the subject of a lengthy article in The New Yorker that discussed his prowess and the devotion of his followers. Don’t sleep, kids. Pay this man the homage he deserves so he doesn’t leave us again!

Dang, I went to Tasty China last night and didn’t know! And I was so close to ordering that shrimp too.
dont’ hold your breath … was as tempt-asian cafe, fairfax, va (the second stop on his magical mystery tour) yesterday an we got to talk a little about this, that and the other, when out of the we got into chef chang’s layesy stop. just a blip on freeway down to charlottesville. in a “conspirital” tone, the issue of lack of a green card came up. make of the what you will.
I head Peter Chang was going to open a restaurant in Cool Springs Tennessee? I don’t mind driving down to Atlanta but would LOVE if he was really coming to Nashville.

Here’s another recent piece on Chang.
And Robert C. – could you try commenting again, this time in English please?
… sorry for prior, mark that up to severe pollen haze! thanks to “www.donrockwell.com”, i caught on to this near the end of chef chang’s brief run at china star, then to temptasian, and then what was to be schezuan boy. and then poof! seems all it took was a very good review in the local media … and the boy was off again. when i opened my ny one afternoon, first thought was enjoy it while you can because it ain’t gonna last. and soon enough, el poof again! expired green card maybe?
… by the way chef chang is phenominal! closest i will ever get to china. thankfully the folks at temtasian learned quickly 🙂 they continue his salt/pepper eggplant, roast fish w/ scallion, baby wonton in red chili oil, little rolls with ground fish and cilantro etc. this one could easily be a 4-5 star chef . too bad. when he left the chinese embasy in DC (not sure why) could have walked into any DC establishment and become a star:(
nice post. thanks.
