Calling all doughnut fiends

Besha Rodell is trying to get me fat. I don’t think Besha fully understands the extent of my fried dough addiction because she sent me to Sublime Doughnuts, a new independent bakery near Georgia Tech (535 Tenth Street, Atlanta, 404-897-1801). And I went on a doughnut buying spree as expected. Owner Kamal Grant, who is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, is making some pretty delicious—and cute—doughnuts.

    I think I just drove by this place – is there like No signage outside?? any particular likes/dislikes?

    It is in a strip mall and I believe it has “donut” written above the door. I would get the dulce de leche or the strawberry glazed twist. Wasn’t crazy about the strawberry cheesecake one though.

    We have been going on a regular donut run all the time. Lover of shapes, taste, fillings, and toppings esp. candies not just nuts. New flavors to die for. All home made w/ the finest ingredents & best quality. Puts Dunkin Doughnuts to shame.

    I just want to encourage anyone who reads this to check out Sublime Donuts ASAP. I went in there today and Kamal mentioned that after 11am he gets a customer about once every 2 hours, and they’re now open ’till 6pm Tuesday-Friday at least. I encourage you to call ahead if you want to make sure you get a specific kind, some of his donuts are only available with a day’s notice.

    For anyone who doesn’t know, it’s in the strip mall at the corner of 10th and Hemphill right at the most Northwest corner of the Georgia Tech campus, right next to a Firehouse Subs.

    The list of available flavors I got today included: Honey glazed bowties, callebaut dark chocolate fudge icing, strawberry glaze ribbon, honey glazed cinnamon swirl, caramel apple fritter, deluxe cinnamon twist, white chocolate fudge icing, A-town cream, Dulce de Leche, Milk chocolate fudge icing, butterfinger with caramel milk chocolate icing, cookies and cream, butter toffee crunch with caramel chocolate icing, fresh strawberry n cream, maple walnut, reese’s peanut butter cup, raspberry filled heart, peanut caramel, red velvet cake, hot cross bun, chocolate banana fritter (Elvis style an extra $0.25), triple chocolate cake, mango glaze, frosted croissant, black and white cake, and cheese Dan-ISH.

    Ditto. A girl can only eat so many donuts on her own, and we must keep Sublime Donuts around. Remember the sadness when Kool Korners closed? We do not need that again. Buy them for your friends, your coworkers, or hoard them all for yourself. They are worth the calories. Have a seat and read a donut book. My favorites are the dark chocolate and fresh strawberry. Go. Now.
