Bhojanic: Decatur

RESTAURANT REVIEW:

Atlanta’s Indian restaurant scene rivals that of many metropolitan cites. Craving chaat? Got you covered. Thali on your mind? No problem. I was intrigued by Bhojanic’s take on Indian cuisine. They bill themselves as more of a Indian fusion/tapas style joint, which why I kind of stayed away to begin with. I am so sick of fusion cuisine.

I met my friend E. for lunch there last week. She had been before and had most of the menu on lock. We decided to share a beer since their list was pretty impressive-there were some Indian beers I had never heard of, but we settled on sharing a Duvel. Aside from Mexican food, no cuisine lends itself better to beer than Indian food. We both chose to go with a thali platter and started with a bhel puri (pictured above) to nibble on. The puri was really nice and tasted fresh. I always enjoy puri because of the different flavor and textural combinations. Bhojanic’s was pretty darn good. E. went with a veggie thali and I had the meat and veggie mix.

I chose the chicken tikka, chole, and onion dumplings. The platter came with rice, Indian pickles, pappadum, and naan. I was pretty pleased with all the flavors-the chole was the table favorite. The tikka was pretty tasty, but the onion dumpling lacked flavor. I should have gotten the eggplant like E.

Verdict: Great service. Clean space. Nice concept with an interesting menu that appeals to a wide variety of diners. Not the best Indian food in Atlanta, but a satisfying meal. I would return.

I recently went to “Armaan” on pleasant hill road. Easily one of the better traditional North Indian restaurants around, and an impressively long menu too! They also do one of the better version of Rumali (handkerchief bread) rotis i’ve ever had in the US. Recommended.

There are two things I love best about Bhojanic. 1. It is a family run business and 2. their DAL! Best I’ve had in Atlanta. I crave it.

I’ve been going to the Bhojanic for months now. Easily the best restaurant in Decatur. Great food, great service, and amazing live shows. The chicken tikka masala is out of this world!

Bhojanic is one of the worst indian restaurants I’ve had. And I’ve eaten at mostly all of them in Atlanta. Its way too westernized for an authentic Indian palate. Want really good indian chicken? Go to Zyka on Scott Blvd, the Palace in Norcross , or Tadka in Alpharetta.

Eeeeek! BEST indian restaurant?? Hardly. Insipid and inauthentic flavors. If you're a fan of Indian cuisine, Moksha on Old Roswell Road is your best bet!!
