Another great meal at Restaurant Eugene

I took my father to Eugene last week for a quiet dinner. It did not disappoint. The Chef was nice enough to send out a little oyster topped with a pickled ginger granita for us. That was very refreshing and just briny enough. My father ordered the Roman-style artichokes and the crab stack which was a crab cake topped with a fried soft-shell crab. He loved both his dishes. I ordered the whole roasted hen of the woods mushrooms which was served over Anson Mill grits to start. I was enamored with this dish. The mushroom got very crisp and the grits were a perfect creamy contrast. My entree was a halibut bouillabaisse style. The halibut was very crisp and served over some Mailbar spinach and sweet fingerlings in a tomato sauce. There was also a piece of lobster crowning the entire plate. Great dish. What definitely have it again. We did not get dessert because we were very full. They did have homemade waffles with candied ginger that I am dying to try. The service was great as usual. My top pick for best Atlanta restaurant by far.

    Glad you enjoyed it … I went there Sat (Jul 29) and found it uneven. The artichokes, for me, were well cooked but rather bland (and the bread was oddly salty). My entree, however, was great — halibut, figs & foie gras wrapped in fig leaves with glazed baby egglplants and a cippolini ragout. The dessert was so cloying sweet that I sent it back. The service was great, but for the price I would expect each serving to shine.
